It's safe to say the Angelina College Lady Roadrunner softball team had a successful trip to the Regional Crossover Tournament held in Longview this past weekend.
The Lady Roadrunners went 5-1 in the three-day tournament, beating Paris 3-2 Friday on the strength of Taylor Thompson's pitching performance. Thompson struck out four while giving up just four hits over seven innings, and Taylor Brookshire and Molly Mackey did the work at the plate, combining for three singles and an RBI.
Next came a 7-5 win over Lon Morris on Saturday behind Cassidy Ivy's first collegiate homer, seven strong innings from starting pitcher Shelby Phillips and Laura Martinez' two-hit, two-run performance.
AC followed that game with its only loss of the tourney, falling 8-0 to Navarro.
On Sunday, the Lady ‘Runners beat Northeast Texas 9-1 in five innings, with Phillips earning another win. Hannah Coker drove in two runs with a pair of singles, and Shelby Wallace drove in four runs with a pair of doubles.
Earlier, the Lady Roadrunners beat Texarkana 7-6 and Midland 3-2, with Wallace driving in the game winner in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Lady ‘Runners (9-3) will travel to Blinn College on Wednesday before beginning a two-day home stand on Friday and Saturday. AC hosts Trinity Valley Friday starting at 3 p.m. and Alvin College Saturday at 1 p.m.
