Lumberjacks basketball prepare for March madness

Like Christmas this time of year comes as a joy to most sports fans, it's time for March madness. This season the SFA Lumberjacks are set for a possible deep Southland conference run.

The 'Jacks are the number two seed and will face rival Sam Houston Wednesday at noon in Katy, Texas. SFA is on a hot streak as of late. Winners of 10 of their last 12 the 'Jacks say it is because they have come together as a team.

"We just continue to grow as the season goes on," said guard Antonio Bostic. "We are playing better because we are playing more as a team. We are all on the same page now so we go out there and have fun together."

Bostic and senior Jereal Scott were recently honored with all-conference selections. Bostic earned a first team all-conference honor while Scott was named to the second team.

They will face the Bearkats for the third time this season and the 'Jacks say that sweeping a rival like Sam Houston will be tough.

"It is very hard to beat any team three times in one year," said Scott. "We just have to go out there with the same intensity that we always do and take care of business."

SFA will look to avoid another early exit at the hands of Sam Houston. Coach Danny Kaspar explained that he believes this team is different than others who have sputtered towards the end of a season. Kaspar conveyed that no matter the regular season record everyone starts back at zero this time of year.

"What you have done in conference can be quickly forgotten if you don't come to play in post season tournament," said Kaspar. "I try to get the guys to remain hungry and humble and go in there and work as hard as we can to accomplish our main goal which is to get to the NCAA tournament."

SFA tips off at noon on Wednesday against Sam Houston. We will have post game interviews and highlights both on and during the evening newscast.
