LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – The graduation caps and gowns are packed away and the classes of 1975 through 1980 have scattered to the far corners of the Earth. But that is not stopping two East Texas natives from working to bring their Lufkin High School classmates back together for a multi-class reunion in May.
"It's really kind of like meeting your family again that you haven't seen in 20 years," said Sally Jo Parise, multi-reunion co-chair.
One would think that task would be easy in this day and age of the Internet, smart phones, and other devices that can put you in touch with someone across the world instantly.
"It's absolutely vital. We want to pass the word along through emails, text messages and Facebook," said Parise.
They are also relying on good ole old-fashioned word of mouth to help keep the tradition alive.
"Life is short we're losing classmates daily. Let's get together, let's bring people together and enjoy each other," said Holly Davis Stone, multi-reunion co-chair.
"It's May 4 and May 5, 2012. We are going to have it downtown at the Grand and we're going to do a daytime bar-be-cue," said Parise. The Friday gathering begins at 7 pm on Friday. The Saturday event is from 10:30 am until 3 pm at Grace Dunn Richardson Park. The group plans to return to the Grand at 7 pm Saturday night.
"We had a good turnout for the last one. We're hoping to have more show up for this one and actually look forward to it. It's going to be a lot of fun," said Stone.
The cost of the multi-class reunion is $25 per person and $40 per couple after March 1st and at the door. Make checks payable to LHS Class of 1977. You should include your graduating class and the names of your guests. Payments should be mailed to Sally Jo Parise, 1108 N. Lakeshore Dr., Rockwall, TX 75087. Parise can also be contacted by phone at 512-736-5288, email@example.com, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
