Rodent droppings found in this week's restaurant report

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Restaurant inspectors have made their rounds to some Smith County restaurants that have had rodent droppings, hygiene issues, and foods that are stored in wrong temperatures.

Donut Place off of the West Southwest Loop 323 in Tyler had some uncooked kolaches stored thirty degrees to warm. They also had hygiene issues, with an employees medication and watch on a food tray. Total demerits: 23

Inspectors found dead insects behind coolers at Royal Donuts off of Old Henderson Highway in Tyler. They also found rodent droppings under storage shelves and in the paper towel closet. Accumulated debris was found in the cappuccino machine nozzles. Total demerits: 25

Newk's Express Cafe off of all Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler had a walk-in cooler that was keeping a number of food items too warm. An employee's coffee was on the food prep table, and packaged products for customers were not properly labeled. Total demerits: 19

Finally, China King Buffet off of the West Loop 281 in Longview made the list this week. Sushi, shrimp, tofu, ham, and fish were all held too warm. Cheese, tamales and rice noodles were not properly marked. Inspectors also found dirty utensils and dirty sheet pans. Total demerits: 28
