Police release names of baby, 2 women killed in Diboll train/auto collision

An 18-month old and two Diboll women were killed Thursday afternoon when their SUV was struck by a train, according to police.

An officer on the scene said an Jeep, traveling westbound on Maynard Street, either stalled or stopped on the tracks and the train hit it around 2 p.m. and pushed it about 100 yards before coming to a stop.

54-year-old Sofia Carillo, 19-year-old Tavita Carillo, and the infant were killed by the collision.

The driver of the train was not injured.

Witnesses at the scene said the train had sounded its whistle while approaching the crossing. Bells were ringing and the crossing arms were down at the time of the accident.

Around 9:30 p.m. the 62-car train had been removed from the crossing and Maynard Street traffic was allowed through.

According to Seargeant Brandan Lovell, the preliminary Diboll Police investigation is complete and was turned over to Union Pacific Railroad Police investigators from Houston.

There is no word yet on any benefit or tragedy fund for the victims' family.
