Raising Your Little Ones

If you're the parent of a young child, you know how challenging it can be. Discipline problems, hyperactivity, and learning disabilities are just a few of the obstacles you may be presented with as you do your best to raise your little one. So, how do you know if you're handling these situations correctly?

If you or someone close to you has been dealing with these issues, this edition of  Inside East Texas could make a difference. We'll hear from two different experts whose advice just may make your job as a parent a whole lot easier.

Dr. Jeff Glass is a pediatrician with the Children's Clinic of Lufkin. He was recently a featured speaker at this year's Parent University, where he addressed the appropriate way to discipline children. He'll discuss effective discipline measures, age-appropriate discipline, and preparing for the arrival of a newborn. He’ll also answer medical questions relating to disorders like attention deficit disorder.

Susie Shands is the academic language therapist and the coordinator of the dyslexia department at St. Cyprian’s School in Lufkin. She will discuss the types of learning disabilities that they typically see:  dyslexia, warning signs of a learning disability, testing and diagnosis for learning disabilities, and dealing with a child who has a learning disability.
