Luxury car swallowed by Angelina County sinkhole

CENTRAL, TX (KTRE) -

One vehicle was in quite a bind Sunday evening when the road collapsed beneath it.

Sunday evening, part of Old Homer Alto Road, off of FM 2021 in Central (northwest Angelina county) collapsed near Highway 59 with one vehicle on it.

Angelina County officials say the occupants evacuated the vehicle when they felt the road about to give.  The vehicle, which appeared to be a dark colored BMW was lifted out by a crane that was called in.

Rick Harrison, Angelina County Commissioner, Precinct 1, called it was a freak accident of nature.

No serious injuries were reported.

Meteorologists report parts of Angelina County received 2-6 inches of rain over the weekend causing several areas to flood.  The rest of the week into the weekend looks to be fairly consistent weather wise.  Highs look to remain in the upper 70s to near 80 with a few isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms possible.

Harrison spent Monday morning surveying the roads in his precinct for any other damage.
