Hundreds of dead chickens litter ETX road after truck crash

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

Hundreds of dead chickens are now removed from an overturned chicken truck near the south side of Lake Nacogdoches, according to officials.

DPS troopers said the Tyson Chicken truck was traveling westbound on FM 225 and flipped sometime before 4 p.m. Monday afternoon.

Authorities said it appeared the driver was going too fast in a curve, causing the truck to overturn. The driver, whose name has not been released, was flown by helicopter to a Tyler hospital. Their condition is not known at this time.

Live chickens were aboard the truck, dozens of which died in the accident. The surviving chickens were loaded on another truck and hauled from the scene. Witnesses said the amount of feathers on the ground looked like "snow."

TxDOT spokesperson Kathi White said the cleanup process near the East Lake Entrance lasted several hours.
