NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks have received the No. 2 seed in the Women's Basketball Invitational and will host No. 15 Northern Iowa Thursday at 7 p.m. at William R. Johnson Coliseum.
This will mark the Ladyjacks 26th appearance in postseason play, having last advanced to the 2010 WNIT where they fell to Creighton, 76-65.
SFA (23-9) is coming off a tremendous run in the Southland Conference Tournament where they defeated both Lamar and Nicholls State to advance to the championship game, only to fall to McNeese State in the final minute, 60-56. It was the first time SFA had advanced to the tournament championship game since 2007.
The Ladyjacks' 23 wins this season are the third highest mark this century and is SFA's 26th 20-win season in school history.
SFA will be looking to snap a seven-game postseason losing streak that dates back all the way to 2000 when they defeated Xavier (73-72) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Baton Rouge, La. The Ladyjacks hold an 18-28 record all-time in postseason play, which includes the NCAA Tournament, WNIT and AIAW National Tournament. This is their first appearance in the WBI.
Northern Iowa (16-14) enters the WBI with little momentum, having lost seven of their previous eight games, and are coming off a 53-46 loss to Creighton in the quarterfinals of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament last Friday.
The Panthers have three players that average double-figures in scoring, including team-leading scorer K.K. Armstrong (13.1 ppg).
Tickets for Thursday's game will be available at the door with no pre-sale.
Ticket prices will be $8 for adults, $4 for children (ages 9-18) and $4 for SFA students. Children ages eight years and younger will get in free.
