Longtime Nacogdoches community servant has a street named in his honor

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) – Arthur Weaver has been a political activist in Nacogdoches for many years and now he has his own street.

In a ceremony Thursday afternoon, the city officially renamed Lucas Street in Mr. Weaver's honor.

Mr. Weaver helped found the Nacogdoches Chapter of the NAACP, organized the Nacogdoches County Voter's league and the Nacogdoches County Community Foundation.

His homestead is located on the corner of Martin Luther Drive and Lucas Street.

"It is our privilege to be able to honor Mr. Weaver and his accomplishments in this way," said Mayor Roger Van Horn.  The Nacogdoches City Council approved a recommendation from the Naming Committee last month.

"It's not the good things you do in life for yourself that count.  It's the good things you do in life for others that count," Mr. Weaver once said.
