NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks were unable to slow down a dynamic UNI Panthers' offense in an 83-67 loss in the first round of the Women's Basketball Invitational Thursday evening at William R. Johnson Coliseum.
SFA (23-10) had four players score in double-figures, including a team-high 16 points from Annette Davis but the Ladyjacks could not slow down a Panthers' team that shot 51 percent from the floor, including 41 percent from 3-point territory.
Five Panthers scored in double-figures and Rachel Madigral scored a game-high 23 points to lead UNI to a second round matchup against Sam Houston State on Saturday.
SFA led 32-31 at halftime but UNI erupted offensively in the second half, outscoring the Ladyjacks 52-35 and made 12-of-23 shots from the floor. Over the final 13 minutes, SFA got outscored 40-24and over the final nine minutes never got the score within single digits.
The Ladyjacks finished the 2011-12 season with one of their best campaigns this century, making their first appearance in the postseason in the Brandon Schneider era and winning at least 23 games for the first time since 2005.
For seniors Tammara Marion, Amina Sawyer and Courtney Conwright, Thursday marked their final games in their respective SFA careers.
