Morning commute slowed by 2 major wrecks, one fatal

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

The Monday morning commute got off to a busy start with two separate wrecks.

The first wreck was reported as a near head-on collision just after 4:30 am on Highway 110 N. just south of County Road 412. There was one person in each vehicle. One was transported by a medical helicopter into a Tyler hospital, the other by ambulance.

One fatality has been confirmed by DPS in another wreck that happened just before 5:20 am,  on Highway 64 E. at County Road 230 east of Chapel Hill. Highway 64 E. was temporarily shut down for a medical helicopter to land on the scene. One person was transported by medical helicopter from this wreck.

The extent of injuries in both wrecks is unknown at this time.
