POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A Cypress boy was seriously injured after he ran in front of a car on US 59 North in Polk County, while chasing a ball across the street.

According to the DPS report, the 13-year-old boy was visiting his grandmother in the New Willard area. He chased a ball across the northbound lanes of US 59 and picked it up in the median around 10 a.m. Sunday. When he began running back across to his grandmother's house, he was hit by a 2005 Toyota Matrix, driven by Anna Drago, 35, of Bossier City, La.

A helicopter arrived on the scene and took the boy to a hospital in Houston, where he was treated for a serious head injury, according to the report.

An updated condition on the boy was not available Monday afternoon.
