NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office deputies have arrested a man who they say was stealing copper pipes from a person he knew.

Sheriff Thomas Kerss said Richard Michael Courvelle, 41, of Nacogdoches, was arrested at his residence on Thursday off a warrant for theft of metal.

Kerss said the arrest stemmed from a situation on March 12 when a man caught Courvelle loading copper pipes from a neighbor's house. The neighbor confronted Courvelle, who said he knew the owner of the residence and gave his name. He said the owner gave him permission to take the pipes, Kerss said.

The neighbor let Courvelle go, but when the homeowner came home, the neighbor told him about the situation. The homeowner said he did not give Courvelle permission to take the pipes and called the sheriff's office.

The homeowner and neighbor were able to identify a suspect and the neighbor identified Courvelle from a photo lineup.
