LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – It is hard to keep Lufkin High School's Chris Durham's feet on the ground this week after a standout performance last weekend at the 61st Annual TSU Relays in Houston.
The high school senior posted a personal best of 48.83 in the 400 meter dash which earned him a first place win in the finals. Durham (48.83), Aaron Lecense, Summer Creek (49.09), Ryan Deleon, Corpus Christi King (49.10), Lamont Massey, Cohen, W.L. (49.85), Ike Emesih, Spring Westfield (50.06), Shaquille Wheeler, Houston Westbury (50.84).
This week Durham is practicing with his team in preparation for next week's Willie Ross Relays in Lufkin, and he has his sights set higher.
"We are hoping that he has a chance to make it to the state track meet this year in the quarter. He was able to go to the TSU relays last weekend which is one of the most historic track meets in the state of Texas and he was able to win the quarter down there. He is doing really well and his hard work is really paying off right now," said Brooke Stafford, LHS Track coach.
The Willie Ross Relays will be held March 29 at Abe Martin Stadium in Lufkin. Click here for the events schedule and times.
