DIBOLL, TX (KTRE) - Nineteen inches: That was the length of 9-year-old Brayson Jackson's hair -- from his scalp to the ends. Until Friday.
He made the decision to donate his hair to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children.
Brayson shed tears of nervousness as he headed to the barber shop in Diboll Friday afternoon, waiting his turn for his first haircut since he was four.
But in the end, his loved ones were the ones shedding tears of pride and joy over the thoughtfulness of the 3rd grader.
"I'm glad he's chosen to donate his hair for other people that really need it," said Jessica Jackson, Brayson's mother. "And he said last night he'd grow it out and do it again."
"It just makes me teary eyed, because, a 9-year-old to want to give their hair to kids that doesn't have or are unfortunate to have hair, that's a joyful thing," said Brenda Bell, his grandmother. "I just thank God for my grandbaby for being that thoughtful."
Mom and grandma weren't the only ones who were proud of Brayson. His older sister says her brother's selflessness touched her as well.
"It's something I would do if my hair was as long as his," Jackson said.
Brayson's long braided locks were cut short today. But his new 'do will serve as a reminder of his thoughtfulness.
