Lufkin man off life support following Sunday wreck

Editor's note: In a previous version of this story, KTRE incorrectly reported Jaron Parrish had died. Trooper Rodney Tucker initially said Parrish was dead, but in a telephone interview Wednesday, Tucker said Parrish was only taken off life support.

A Lufkin man is off life support following a one-vehicle accident early Sunday.

Jaron Parrish, 19, was taken off life support Tuesday morning at a Tyler hospital, according to Trooper Rodney Tucker.

Tucker said Alexandra Porras, 19, of Lufkin, was driving a Hyundai Accent east on FM 1194 around 1:50 a.m. when she drifted into a grassy shoulder, overcorrected to the left, crossed the highway and struck a tree.

Parrish was taken to a Tyler hospital by helicopter, while Porras and the other two passengers, Oscar Rodriguez, 15, and Willie Gilder, 21, both of Lufkin, were taken to a Lufkin hospital.

Tucker said he suspects alcohol was involved in the accident and DPS is waiting on blood test results to come back on Porras.

No criminal charges have been filed in the case.
