DPS confirms Cleveland man dies in Polk Co. crash

DPS has identified the man who died in a four-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon as a Cleveland resident.

Ira Curry, 75, died at the scene at 4:05 p.m. The report shows he was wearing a seatbelt.

According to the report, Curry was southbound on US 59 near Corrigan at 3:41 p.m., driving a 2002 Toyota, when he failed to drive in a single lane and struck a towed unit being pulled by a 1997 Peterbilt, driven by James Gerrold Vandorn, of Liberty. Curry then veered across the grassy median and into the northbound traffic and struck a towed unit, being pulled by a 2003 Peterbilt, driven by Roy Lee Wells, of Nashville, Ark. Anthony Joseph Lacoste, of Foley, Ala., was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry and veered to the left to avoid the crash and came to rest in the median.

The northbound lane was shut down for several hours as responders worked the crash.
