NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

A person is being treated for injuries at a hospital and two others were detained following a disturbance on Orton Street in Nacogdoches.

According to Nacogdoches Police spokesman Sgt. Greg Sowell, officers were dispatched to Orton Street in reference to a disturbance. While other officers were patrolling the streets, they saw a man jump out of a vehicle and run into a house on Shawnee Street. He's been identified as Steven Pinkney, 23, a parole violator, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and Nacogdoches Police Department. A warrant was issued on March 8 for engaging in organized criminal activity and evading arrest and detention. Police are determining if Pinkney was connected with the Orton Street disturbance.

Numerous police cars arrived on the scene and officers, some with automatic rifles, surrounded the house. They managed to arrest Pinkney who eventually came out of the house, but was ordered immediately by officers, with their weapons drawn, to lay down on the ground.

Sheriff Thomas Kerss says Nacogdoches County is in the process of filing another charge against Pinkney for introducing contraband/narcotics into a correctional facility. It was concealed somewhere on Pinkney's body, according to Kerss.

Officers also arrested Darreyon Dewayne Cooper, age 17, who has been charged with aggravated assault in reference to this incident. He was taken into custody near the scene of the assault, and was formally charged yesterday afternoon.

More arrests are expected, and the case remains under investigation.

Sowell said it appears the victim was running from several suspects and was hit in the head with a brick. He is being treated at a Nacogdoches hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
