POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) says a truck fire around 3:30 a.m. today has lead to the closure of the northbound outside lane of U.S. 59 at the intersection of FM 942 in Leggett (Polk County).

There are no injuries. The truck's trailer, loaded with pallets of aluminum trihydrate in bagged powder form, caught fire. The chemical is non-hazardous but can irritate the eyes. Personnel will be donning safety glasses and respirators for protection when the clean up process begins. The northbound outside travel lane is expected to remain closed for most of the day.

Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution when traveling through the area as TxDOT crews and emergency personnel work the scene in an effort to move traffic through, clear the roadway, and clean up the wreckage.

As of 2:30 p.m., TxDOT officials said it would be several more hours before the road was opened to normal traffic flow.
