EAST TEXAS (KTRE) - Easter is coming up this weekend, which is a time a lot of families celebrate through various events.
And one of the most popular events of Easter weekend is the Easter egg hunt.
The city of Tyler will host its 11th annual Twilight Easter Egg Hunt Thursday night. it's an event they say they host each year for one specific reason.
"It's really for the families, so they can come out together, have an event where they know it's structured, but yet it's still a lot of fun, and the biggest part is obviously because it's free," said Ann Santana, who runs the Glass Recreation Center for the city of Tyler.
Tyler's Twilight Easter Egg Hunt includes four hunts for special needs children and kids ages 3 to 10.
"We're also going to have 3 bounce houses," Santana said. "We're going to have 3 clowns out there making animals out of balloons, face painting, and of course, the Easter bunny's going to have to be there, too."
In Longview on Saturday, the organization M 25 is hosting their first Bunny Run 5K and Kids' Dash and Egg Hunt.
"We want to add value to the community of Longview and we think that Easter is such a special time. So we wanted to do something that embraced both of those ideas," said Chris Reid of M 25.
And no matter where or how you celebrate Easter, Santana says parents need to remember just one thing.
"Just remember that the most important thing is spending time with your children, because this time is so fleeting and it will pass before you know it," she said.
There are other events in the area this weekend, too.
On Thursday morning at 10:15 a.m., there's a Bunny Hop Clothes Swap at Kids Depot 2000+ in Tyler.
On Thursday night at 6 p.m., there's a Special Needs Easter Party at The Reserve in Longview.
And on Saturday at 10 a.m., you can have bunny pictures made on Main Street at Lee Loveless Photography in Palestine. Also at 10 a.m., there's an Easter egg hunt at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Tyler, and at 1 p.m., there's an Easter egg hunt at Kit McConnico Park in Lufkin.
A lot of local churches are also hosting special programs this weekend.
