NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A Timpson man is in jail after allegedly beating, tying up and threatening his wife during the thunderstorm in Nacogdoches County Tuesday night.

Sheriff Thomas Kerss said deputies were called to the residence in the Chireno area around 1:15 a.m. As one patrol unit passed through State Highway 21, a second unit was a couple minutes behind, Kerss said. The first unit made it safely, but the second hit a tree that had fallen on the road in that two-minute window.

Kerss said the first deputy arrived on the scene and learned that Calvin Wayne Haynes Sr., 40, had been in an argument with his wife and eventually punched her. He then bound her hands behind her back and put a sock in her mouth before putting a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her, Kerss said.

Kerss said Haynes, who was intoxicated, eventually fell asleep and the wife managed to call 911. She was not seriously injured.

Deputies arrested Haynes on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful restraint. He is being held in the Nacogdoches County Jail on a collective $40,000 bond.
