The Blinn College Lady Buccaneers seemed just as happy to be at Roadrunner Field on Wednesday as the home-team Angelina College Lady Roadrunners, with the Lady Bucs hitting three homers in a two-game sweep of AC, winning 4-0 in the opener and 10-2 in the nightcap.
Lady Buc Kris Davila hit a two-run shot over the left-field wall in the first inning of the first game; and Thomasina Garza hit a three-run shot followed by Tiffani McKnight's two-run homer in the second game. Garza finished with four RBI after driving in another run in the fifth inning of the 10-2 win. McKnight drove in three runs, and Caitie Carney drove in another.
AC's Jordan Garza's RBI double and Molly Mackey's RBI single accounted for all the Lady Roadrunners' runs over the two games. Laura Martinez collected two singles in each game, and Hannah Coker doubled twice in the nightcap.
In the opener, Blinn starter Kaci Federwisch frustrated Lady Roadrunner hitters, striking out just one while scattering four hits – two of those by AC's Martinez – in picking up the 4-0, complete-game win.
Lady Buc Davila blasted a two-run homer in the first, Leandra Maly had an RBI single in the second and McKnight drove home a run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth give Federwisch all the run support she'd need.
AC got the two infield singles from Martinez, a single from Shelby Wallace and a single from Emily Ramsey. Federwisch's mixture of off-speed pitches kept the Lady ‘Runners off-balance, and her defense did the rest, making several rally-killing plays throughout the game.
The Lady ‘Runners won't play again until April 13th, hosting Coastal Bend College in a doubleheader scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
