Jarid Scarafiotti was overlooked as a recruit coming out of Shreveport, but that didn't stop him from playing college baseball. The Lumberjacks have him a shot as a walk-on and Scarafiotti hasn't looked back. Scarafiotti went from that first walk-on to earning a 1st team All Southland Conference honors his junior year.
Now during his senior year Scarafiotti has become the ‘Jacks all time leader in RBI's, something that he takes a lot of pride in.
"It was really big for me," said Scarafiotti. "I like it a lot because RBI's are a big stat, it means you are helping the team win by producing runs."
But it's not just his hits that help the Lumberjacks. His senior leadership also plays a big part of why Scarafiotti is so valuable to SFA.
"It's very important to have him out there calling the game because he is like an extension of the coach," said SFA head coach Johnny Cardenas. "He does a good job of calling the game and handling the pitchers and it is really nice to have a field general like that."
Cardenas is in his fourth year at SFA and Scarafiotti appreciates the growth and success of the program. The senior says he likes that coach can trust him to help out with the younger players.
"Coach Cardenas has done a good job of getting the program in the right direction and he has leaned on me a little bit to help him do that as a player," said Scarafiotti. "He wants me to lead these other younger guys to keep the program going in the right direction."
With just one more homerun Scarafiotti will become just the sixth Lumberjack ever to finish his career with twenty or more homeruns. But Scarafiotti says his focus is just on winning during his senior season.
"It makes you want to go out there and finish on top and play hard," said Scarafiotti. "This being the last time you get to face some of these teams."
Catcher Jarid Scarafiotti is your ‘Jack of the week.
