NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested two more suspects Wednesday who are accused of not complying with sex offender registration requirements.
Sheriff Thomas Kerss said Kelly Montieth Griffith, 35, of Garrison, and Jeffery Kevin McGowan, 45, of Cushing, were arrested on charges of sex offender's duty to register.
Kerss said both suspects were found not to be living at the residence in which they registered, which is a violation of their duty as a sex offender.
Warrants were obtained on both following a county-wide check of all sex offenders last week.
Griffith and McGowan are the fifth and sixth suspects believed to be still living in the county that had warrants following the sweep. Kerss said only one more suspect is at-large and still believed to be in the county.
"I think this shows the value of what we've done," Kerss said. "And we've been able to get them located in a reasonable amount of time."
Griffith was convicted in 1997 on a charge of sexual assault of a child. The victim was a 14-year-old girl.
McGowan was convicted in 1999 on a charge of sexual assault of a child. The victim was a 12-year-old girl.
