The Galveston Whitecaps seem fully intent on maintaining their third-place position in the Region XIV South Zone standings. The Angelina College Roadrunners, on the other hand, are about to hit scramble mode if they're harboring any designs on making the post-season.
The Roadrunners opened a three-game series against the Whitecaps Thursday, and the 'Caps took advantage of six AC errors to post six unearned runs in an 8-2 win in Galveston.
'Runner starting pitcher Bobby McCormack allowed just two earned runs over his five innings of work, but left in bottom of the sixth with AC trailing 7-2. The Whitecaps posted three-run innings in the third and fourth innings following five of the 'Runner errors.
Colten Walla and C.J. Wilson drove in the two runs for Angelina College, Walla's RBI coming in the first and Wilson's coming in the second. Galveston starter Cody Butler won his second start of the season against the Roadrunners, this time tossing the full nine innings and allowing a total of eight 'Runner hits.
Kyle Giusti, Cody Spriggins, Tyler Sullivan, Chris Navarro and Reece Riddle accounted for each of Galveston's RBIs.
Galveston pushed its season record to 23-13, 17-10. AC drops to 16-22, 11-15.
The series resumes Saturday in Lufkin with a doubleheader scheduled for a 2 p.m. start. Live audio streaming will be available by logging on to www.angelina.edu and clicking on the Athletics link.
