CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Officials say an East Texas man was stabbed multiple times after pulling over to assist a stranded motorist.

Cpt. John Raffield of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office says the victim was traveling northbound on Highway 110 in Cherokee County on Friday, when he noticed a pickup truck stopped in the middle of the roadway. The location was approximately 1 1/2 miles north of the intersection of State Hwy 110 and State Hwy 204.

Raffield says the Good Samaritan stopped to help, when a Hispanic male exited the driver side of the truck, and a Hispanic female exited the passenger side of truck.

The Hispanic male approached the victim and asked if he could use his cell phone. The victim told the Hispanic male that he would have to get his phone from his truck and turned to return to his vehicle.

Authorities say the Hispanic male said something in Spanish causing the victim to turn around towards him; the Hispanic male approached the victim and stabbed him three times in the right side of his stomach.

One of the suspects removed the victim's wallet from his pants pocket and removed the money from his wallet, officials say.

The suspects reportedly left in their vehicle traveling northbound on Hwy 110 toward New Summerfield.

Authorities say the victim was found lying in the roadway near his car by a passing motorist.

The victim was careflighted to Trinity Mother Frances, where officials say he underwent surgery. The victim has since been released.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department, the male suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 5'5" to 5'7" tall, and weighing 170 to 180 lbs. He is said to be of medium build, wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. He has short hair, short goatee with trimmed-style sideburns and beard that connect, and is wearing a diamond style earring in his right ear.

The female is described by the Sheriff's Department as a Hispanic female, 5'5" to 5'7" tall with long black hair.

The truck the pair were in is described as a Ford truck, with year model appearing to be from 1973-1979 based on the body style, and is baby blue in color. It is a single cab with a possible exhaust leak, based on the sound of the truck.
