Lufkin Police have arrested a third suspect in connection to equipment theft at Lufkin Industries.

Mark Allen Cheney, 37, of Lufkin, is accused of conspiring to steal $58,109 worth of expendable parts. He is charged with engaging in organized criminal activity.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Lufkin Industries hired former Texas Ranger Pete Maskunas to investigate the thefts. Following the investigation, Maskunas contacted police.

According to the affidavit, an employee with the company noticed an abnormal amount of check-out tendencies and usage of expendable parts which are used in the shop milling process.

Police have previously arrested Jonathan Chance Freeman and Daniel A. Reed on the charges.

Since that time, police have identified two more suspects, including Cheney. Maskunas interviewed the other suspect, who admitted Reed approached him about stealing inserts from the tool room and he also admitted to stealing 30 inserts. The suspect said Cheney was also involved in the thefts with Reed.

Police determined that Cheney knew about the thefts and admitted to using his PayPal account to sell items for Reed. The investigation also revealed Cheney had made some unexplainable draws from the vending machine.
