LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin Police have arrested a woman accused of running over a mall maintenance man after she had stolen an $18 hat which she ended up leaving behind.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Tishannah Lynn Ross, 30, of Lufkin, went into Claire's inside Lufkin Mall on March 22 and took a hat off the wall and placed it on her head. She pushed the sales tag under the hat and left the store, according to the report.

The manager of Claire's said she followed Ross through the mall and tried to get her to return the hat. Ross became confrontational and said she had already bought the hat, according to the report.

The manager convinced her to return to Claire's, where they met security and called police. While the manager tried to get her information, Ross started running out of the mall and got into a vehicle, according to the report.

A maintenance man at the mall stood behind her vehicle to get the license plate number when she backed up at a high rate of speed and hit the man in the legs, according to the report.

The maintenance man suffered bruises near his knees and would have been killed had he not moved out of the way, according to the store manager.

Ross left the hat which started the whole confrontation behind.

Police obtained a warrant for her arrest on March 29. According to police spokesman Det. J.B. Smith, a Crime Stoppers tip led DPS troopers to her and they arrested her during a traffic stop.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
