Who Can Cast A Vote In Texas' Primary Run-Offs?

The Texas Secretary of State's office wants voters to know who can participate in the Republican and Democrat primary run-off election.

"A number of media outlets across the state have incorrectly reported that only those individuals that cast a ballot in the March 9th primary elections may vote in the April 13th run-off election," spokesperson Jennifer Waisath said. "Even if you did not vote on March 9th, all registered voters can still participate in the run-off elections on April 13th."

Who can vote in the April 13th run-off election?

  • Texans who voted in the March 9th Republican primary can cast a ballot in the Republican run-off, and Texans who voted in the Democratic primary can cast a ballot in the Democratic run-off; or,
  • Registered voters who did not participate in either of the parties' March 9th primary elections may choose to vote in the Republican or Democrat April 13th run-off election, but they cannot vote in both run-offs.
