LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A Lufkin man is charged with drinking and driving for at the fifth time.

Lufkin Police say it was not the first time John Glover decided to get behind the wheel after drinking.

Friday night an officer responded to the 2300 block of North Raguet Street after receiving a report of a suspicious vehicle.

The officer located the vehicle and stopped it.  Police said the driver was identified as John Robert Glover, 44, of Lufkin.

According to the police report Glover's actions were slow, his speech was slurred, and his eyes where ‘bloodshot.'

The officer said he could smell the odor of alcohol on Glover.

In response to the officer's questions regarding how much alcohol he had consumed, Glover stated, "too much." Glover failed roadside sobriety tests and was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

The officer later learned that Glover had prior convictions for the offense of driving while intoxicated, which enhanced this arrest to a third degree felony.

Glover has five DWI charges on his record.

Glover was booked into Angelina County Jail. He was released Sunday.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
