Pregnant Woman Dies In Auto Accident

An accident on Highway 59 south of Diboll this afternoon has killed a pregnant woman and her unborn child... and injured two other people. Investigators say the weather did play a factor in that crash.

It happened just after 1:00 this afternoon, when some parts of East Texas saw the heaviest rain. Police say Bridgette Allison of Carthage lost control of her Lincoln Town Car and hydroplaned. The car slid across the median and crashed head-on into a pick-up.

Allison was taken to Lufkin's Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. She was six months pregnant. Doctors tried to save the baby, but were not successful.

Meanwhile, rescue workers had to use the jaws of life to get the driver of the pick-up out. He and a passenger in the car were taken to the hospitals with leg and stomach injuries.

Police say Allison was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
