LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – A former Angelina County jailer has been arrested herself for allegedly violating the civil rights of a person in custody.
Angelina County officials received a tip last week that one of the correction officers for the jail, Kelly Wilson, 40, of Huntington was having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate.
"We launched an internal investigation immediately. Towards the end of the investigation the officer, Kelly Wilson, came in and resigned," said Capt. Allen Hill, Angelina County Sheriff's Department.
The Texas Rangers were then contacted to conduct an independent criminal investigation. Ranger Steve Rayburn headed the investigation and found enough evidence to warrant an arrest.
The former jailer was arrested Tuesday night and charged for violation of the civil rights of a person in custody, improper sexual activity. Her arrest came on the eve of her 40th birthday.
Wilson is currently out of jail on bond.
