BIOGRAPHY: I was born in Brady, Texas and graduated from Brady High School. I graduated from Texas Tech and joined Texas Power & Light in Waxahachie, Texas. I progressed through the company with promotions from Waco, to Brownwood, to Tyler, to Lufkin as assistant Manager, to Commerce as Town Manager, and back to Lufkin in 1982 as District Manager for TP&L.
I retired from Oncor as District Manager in 2006 after 40 years of service.
Other Career Highlights: I have served on and held leadership roles for the Salvation Army, The Coalition, Stubblefield Learning Center, Hospice in the Pines, United Way of Angelina County, The Angelina /Lufkin Chamber of Commerce, 4B Board, Lufkin Convention and Visitors Board, and First Christian Church Board.
I teach 3rd-4th-5th grade Sunday School at FCC, serve as an Elder of FCC, and I am a member of The Lufkin Roundtable which has sold rib eye sandwiches at the Youth Fair and Forest Festival to raise funds for senior graduates of Angelina County Schools. We have awarded 400, $1000.00 scholarships in the name of Chuck Arnold, Denna Brown, and Lauralyn Mathis Hillard, since 1989.
I received the Golden Anvil Award from the Angelina Chamber of Commerce in 1993.
What qualifies you for this office?
Having had leadership roles in the various organizations listed above and having worked as a Legislative advocate in Austin for my Company, I have made many, many valuable contacts.
Economic Development and bettering the community we worked in have always been at the forefront of my goals to live by and accomplish.
What are your plans if elected?
Bringing the City of Lufkin, the Angelina County Commissioners Court/County Judge, Angelina College, Lufkin Independent School District, and Chamber of Commerce together and creating a master plan for good jobs, stronger ties to existing industry, and recognizing small businesses are my first written goals.
We have to work together and share information to survive and prosper. Transparency is also vital to accomplish this plan.
I love Lufkin and I am willing to give the time necessary to make this a better place to live and work.
I am ready to be the Mayor for the City of Lufkin!
