Lufkin man grazed by bullet; second shooting under investigation

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin Police continue to investigate two shootings Wednesday evening.

Around 7:15 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunshots in the 300 block of Dale Street and South Garvan Street. Several people in the area heard multiple gunshots coming from the 200 block of Dale Street. Officers said neighbors heard gunfire, but did not see a shooter.

Moments later, a witness reported seeing a man, later identified as Ataymian Skinner, driving on Dale Street. The witness also said Skinner was yelling that he had been shot.

Authorities said a group drove Skinner to Woodland Heights Hospital, before an officer and emergency crew intervened.

The Lufkin Fire Department then transported Skinner by ambulance to the hospital. Skinner was treated for minor injuries. Officials said he was grazed by the bullet on the forehead.

The preliminary investigation reveals a group of men confronted Skinner on Dale Street, while he was driving. When Skinner stopped, he and the men apparently got into an argument. One of the men tried taking the key from Skinner's car ignition.

According to police, Skinner later realized he was injured and drove himself to family members for help.

Several persons of interest were interviewed by law enforcement, however a shooter has not been indentified. Officers colllected evidence from the scene, Skinner's car, and from people believe to have been involved.

Several hours later, Lufkin Police responded to another shooting around 1:30 a.m., Thursday. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots in the same area of Dale and Garvan Streets.

Officers found bullet holes a home in the 200 block of Dale Street. According to police, the people inside were unharmed. Three bullet holes were found in the side of the house. Inside, they discovered one of the bullets scraped the ceiling then hit a wall across the living room. Another bullet entered through a window, hitting the wall behind the living room television.

The investigation is ongoing.
