PHIL CAMPBELL, AL (WAFF) -
Phil Campbell was one of the hardest hit areas last year, leaving the small town leveled and the community left to rebuild everything from the ground up.
After everything the community has been through in the past 12 months, the community is happy and positive.
The town and people are happy and excited about the future of Phil Campbell.
Chief Mike Rice of the Phil Campbell fire department said the volunteers have come a long way since the storm.
He credits the help from other area fire departments and first responders for helping save people's lives. He said his men are heroes.
"There was times that we didn't know if we were fixing to be victims because of all the wind and hail that was coming from tornados behind the big one," said Rice. "Not once did they want to head back. They kept wanting to rescue people."
