BIOGRAPHY/Other Career Highlights:  1993-1997 Shelby County District Attorney

What qualifies you for this office?

I was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1973.

Since that time, I have engaged in the private practice of law, except for the years 1993-1997 when I was elected by the citizens and served as Shelby County District Attorney.

My primary practice has been in criminal law at the local, state and national levels.

I have been admitted and tried criminal cases across the State of Texas, Louisiana, and Tennessee.

I have been admitted and argued cases before the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, Louisiana, and the 6th Court of Appeals I Cincinnati, Ohio.

I have been an invited speaker for seminars sponsored by the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association over the past 37 years, as well as an Associate Director and member of the Executive Committee of said Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.

I have authored and published a book entitled "Redneck Country…Black Letter Law," and am in the process completing two more book based upon capital murder cases in Shelby County.

As Shelby County District Attorney, I tried more criminal jury cases, and disposed of more felony criminal cases than any other district attorney in the history of Shelby County.

What are your plans if elected (re-elected)?

Being involved in the practice of criminal law in Shelby County, I am keenly aware of the monumental problems in our local criminal judicial system.  Having confronted many of those same problems before, I intend to build back the confidence of our citizens in the criminal justice system, brick-by brick!

I will begin by showing the "Leadership" necessary for our citizens, law enforcement officials , and the judiciary in the office of Criminal District Attorney.

In doing so, I will prove that "Together" we can bring back the effectiveness of a local legal system that has been "Broken" for far too long!
