Economic development requires a strong workforce. Here in East Texas, two universities are exploring ways to better fulfill that future need.
Dr. Tito Guerrero with Stephen F. Austin State University, and administration from Panola College in Carthage are looking for ways to strengthen what they say is already a good relationship. SFA and Panola currently collaborate on nursing instruction.
Thursday, at a meeting in Carthage, several deans from SFA met with Panola's president to discuss possible partnerships in other academic areas.
Another educational partnership here in East Texas reaches all the way to the other side of the world. Thursday, SFA hosted a delegation from Xi'an University of Science and Technology in China. The school is SFA's partner university in the Sino-American Leadership Program.
Dr. Leon Hallman, Director of the SFA Office of International Studies said, "What we're doing with them while they're in Nacogdoches at SFA is to show them what we're doing in our scientific fields and biotech areas, and then looking for ways to have joint faculty and student exchange joint research."
