WACO, TX. (KTRE) - Lufkin High School senior Chris Durham fresh off a first place win in the 400 meter dash Saturday is looking for a repeat performance at the state meet in a couple of weeks.
Durham's time of 47.76 gave him a first place finish and the gold medal at the Region II-5A Track and Field Championships at Baylor University's Hart-Patterson Track and Field Complex in Waco.
The win also means Durham now advances to compete for a state championship title.
The 5A State Championships will be held at UT's Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. Preliminary races will begin at 8 am on May 11, with Durham's 400 meter dash race scheduled for 7:55 Friday night. Qualifiers from Friday's preliminaries will then compete in the track and field finals on May 12.
