LAWERENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Most of the homes along Highway 20 in Hillsboro that were destroyed by those deadly tornadoes have been rebuilt, but there's still a long road to recovery.

Lawrence Davis, Jr. didn't imagine April 27th, 2011 being as bad it was. He had arrived home, turned on the T. V. and heard there was a tornado warning in the area.  Moments later, he found himself covered in debris.

"It tried to pick me up, so I walked around to the old dodge I had and grab the rear view mirror and that's what I had held on," said Davis.

The storms demolished his home and his restaurant he has owned for nearly twenty years.

One year later, Davis has a new home with a storm shelter inside. He said it's up to his son if the restaurant will be rebuilt.

The storms leveled several of his children and family member's homes. All except one have been rebuilt.

His daughter -in-law said she doesn't know where to begin on explaining what her family went through on that horrific day.

"What was most amazing to me for that whole storm were seeing the people who came out to help, the people that brought the food, the people that prayed with us," said Davis.
