TIMPSON, TX (KTRE) - The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting death of a Timpson man.

According to a press release, Constable Stanley Burgay notified Sheriff Newton Johnson at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday that there had been a shooting in the Timpson area, on FM 415.

Deputies arrived on scene and found Jimmy Hopkins, 64, sitting in his pickup and slumped over his seat. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Deputies arrested Franky Baker, 43, of Timpson, on a charge of homicide. His bond is set at $30,000.

According to Capt. Mike Towns, Hopkins' girlfriend had left him for Baker. Hopkins told people he was going to kill his ex and Baker and arrived at their residence with a shotgun pointing out of the window. Baker was waiting for him on the porch and fired first, connecting with Hopkins, Towns said.
