Police release identity in VA death as Lufkin man

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin Police have released the identity of a man found dead Tuesday afternoon at the Lufkin VA clinic.

A security guard found William Clark Kreger, 67, of Lufkin, in his 2006 Ford Taurus parked in the Charles Wilson Outpatient Clinic, located on the 2200 block of North John Redditt Drive, at 5:29 p.m.

According to the police report, the officers found blood inside the vehicle that appeared to come from Kreger's abdominal area. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives found a handgun in the car and believe Kreger died from a single gunshot wound to his chest.

Detectives did not find any signs of foul play, but are treating the case as a homicide.

Justice of the Peace Billy Ball ordered an autopsy and police will use that to help determine a cause of death.
