A recent promotion at the Lufkin Fire Department is one for the record books.
Leefran Skelton is the first woman fire captain ever to be named in Lufkin. Eleven years ago, she was only the second woman to join the department as a firefighter. But Captain Skelton doesn't see herself as a history-maker. She says she's just a hard worker who paid her dues to get where she is.
"I don't feel like I'm any different from the other captains that made it," Skelton says. "I've worked hard to be one of the guys for the last 11 years. As long as you can do your job; have the same training as them, you'll get the respect."
