Authorities with San Augustine County and the state are looking for a fugitive wanted on a parole violation.

Sheriff David Smith said Roger Dale Parker Jr., 35, is believed to be hiding in a wooded area near Broaddus Elementary School.

Smith said Parker is wanted on a parole violation after he was arrested on grand jury indictments for theft of air-conditioning units from churches. However, he made bond on those charges before the state could file the parole violation.

Smith said deputies saw Parker go into a residence in Broaddus at 3:30 a.m. Friday. Deputies went into the residence and Smith said they heard him in the attic. He then jumped out of the attic and ran into a wooded area near Broaddus Elementary.

Smith said Parker is not considered to be dangerous. He is believed to be wearing maroon sweat pants, a dark T-shirt and is barefoot.

Officials with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice is on the scene with dogs trying to track Parker.

Broaddus ISD campuses are locked, but school officials are letting people in.
