LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A serial criminal is back in the Angelina County Jail this week, as he prepares to testify as a victim in a trial accused of shooting him in the rear end.

James Edwin "Bull" Durham, 39, of Lufkin, was taken to the jail from state prison in Teague and booked in on Thursday. Coincidentally, the man accused of shooting him, James Brent Shires, 22, of Lufkin, was booked in the jail at the same time on an unrelated charge.

Shires is scheduled to go on trial on Wednesday on an aggravated assault charge.

Shires is accused of shooting Durham in the buttocks with a shotgun after Durham began fighting with a companion of Shires'. Durham now resides in the Teague unit, where he uses a colostomy bag.

Shires was being booked in the jail on three theft charges Thursday when Durham arrived from Teague. According to an official with the Angelina County Sheriff's Office, Durham and Shires were in opposite glass cells when Durham "flipped him the bird."

Shires is accused of stealing metal casting parts, valued at $3,161, from Innovative Metals, located at 1001 East Park. A Lufkin Police detective received information that the parts were at Xtreme Scrap in Lufkin and was able to connect information on the person that sold the parts as Shires.

Durham is serving 20- and five-year prison sentences on several charges, including evading arrest, arson and meth charges. He has been booked into the Angelina County Jail more than 35 times since 1996.
