Nacogdoches man accused of letting child run near traffic

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

Nacogdoches Police arrested a man after witnesses said he watched a child run near traffic on University Drive Wednesday morning.

According to the police report, a woman called dispatch at 10:32 a.m. from the 300 block of North University Drive. She said a young boy was running southbound on the sidewalk and curb of the yard and almost ran into the busy street several times. The child ran for two blocks and was stopped by witnesses in the parking lot at 115 North University Drive.

A man then walked to the scene and said he was the guardian of the child, according to the report. The man had been walking behind the child but made not attempt to control the child, according to the report.

Police arrested Billy Ray Nash, 53, of Nacogdoches, on a charge of endangering a child.

He is being held in the Nacogdoches County Jail. As of 11:40 a.m., a bond had not yet been set.
