Authorities investigate body found in Shelby County woods

SHELBY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Officials with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office are investigating a body found in a wooded area near the Strong community.

According to Sheriff Newton Johnson, a person on a forest service road reported the body around 6:15 p.m. Sunday.

Johnson said the body is that of a black male. It was discovered about one mile west of FM 139. No identification was found and officials could not immediately determine a cause of death.

Johnson said an autopsy has been ordered and investigators are now attempting to identify the victim. Anyone with information on an identification should call the sheriff's office at 936-598-5600.
