The Lufkin Angelina County Chamber of Commerce awarded the Annual Silver Spike Award at today's First Friday Luncheon.

Lufkin Industries Compliance Manager, John Havard is the recipient of the 22nd Jack O. McMullen Silver Spike Award. Each year, the award is given to a graduate of the Leadership Lufkin Program who demonstrates leadership and is involved in the community. The tradition of the Silver Spike Award began in 1991.

"I was shocked because I never anticipated it. And, this community has been wonderful to me, and I could never do enough to repay people that have done things for me in this community," said John Havard, Compliance Manager for Lufkin Industries.

Gerald French was the guest speaker at today's luncheon. French says he holds the record of being the youngest flight commander and deputy leader in World War II.
