Civil Air Patrol taking over Nacogdoches armory

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

The Civil Air Patrol's Texas wing plans to make good use of an old Texas Army National Guard Armory building in Nacogdoches.

C.A.P. won the bid to purchase the building.

The plans for its use are exciting to volunteers.

The facility, is located at the AL Mangham Airport.

It will be renovated for a training facility for emergency service purposes and cadet aerospace education programs.

On Memorial Day, one young member explained the duties of the civil air patrol.

"Currently, our main job is for emergency services," said Ryan Davis, a C.A.P. senior master sergeant. "Whenever a Cessna goes down, for example, we are the people who are called to go search for those downed aircraft."

The Nacogdoches location will join two service centers in Baytown and Tyler to better serve the East Texas area.
