GRAPELAND, TX (KTRE) - A month-long search for a Grapeland woman accused of breaking her grandmother's hip ended Monday when she turned herself in to the Houston County Jail.
Inv. Chuck Franklin said the investigation stemmed from a May 5 incident when Danielle Nicole Melson, 18, got in an altercation with her 76-year-old grandmother and pushed her, breaking her hip.
Franklin said the grandmother had to have hip replacement surgery and is still recovering in a hospital.
Franklin said a warrant for Melson's arrest, on a charge of injury to the elderly, was obtained the same day. He said police have been looking for her for some time, as she has moved from place to place. Melson surprisingly turned herself in at the Houston County Jail on Monday, Franklin said.
"It's always nice when they take care of it like that," Franklin said. "It saves a lot of time and money."
